Hi,

I am Shakti. I am from India. I recently found this new game engine coming up, and I am really excited about it. So I would like to help.

About Me
I am 26, I am a software engineer currently (Got admission in Ohio State University and Stony Brook but could not go due to some personal issues, bad luck). Mostly worked on C/C++ and JAVA (Good at C++/Core JAVA). I also know little python but really did not work much. Mostly my interests range from Image processing to User interaction. I do some painting in free time.  The last thing I did interesting was implementing a Scripting language having syntax of java for the scripting we use in our company, luckily it was able to simulate a good amount of java. Some time back I was also involved in the 3D graphics, but I have to learn a lot in this field. I did some work in Optical Character Recognition also. I also worked on customizing a PDF generating/parsing engine. I have done some work in the Printer driver development on windows.
I can upload some of my painting when ever I make. Mostly I did one Indian traditional painting, which is kind on getting extinct. I am planning to learn blender, but I will start it after some time only. I did some work in the Luxrenderwww.luxrender.net also, porting some of the procedural textures from blender. I did some study on the visual programming language. I was an active member of a Play group in my college also. We used to write scripts and then act. We also wont 1 nationally level college competition. I also wanted to create a comics character, I though of a short script, but am waiting for learning blender to design the characters.

Some time back I started using a game engine developed in Texas university, but soon I lost focus as no one else were interested, and what I wanted was not an engine but a game. Then I got

It will be really exciting to work with you people. Just let me know how I can help. I will try to help as much as I can. It will be really interesting to build a great game as a team. Looking foreward to it.

Thanks

Welcome Shakti!

Feel free to look around the forum and see what might fit you. Some of the code is open source and according to Jochen it should suffice to write at least a few simple modules and plug-ins to the engine as well as new scene nodes.

It's great to hear that you're into painting as well because we are in desperate need of concept art. I'd love to see some of your paintings! Smiley

See you around the forum!

Hi Shakti,

There definitely is lots of work. Since you seem to be more of a developer, maybe you want to take a look at the open source component of Geist3D. Only the scene graph library of Geist3D is open-source, which should be enough to extent the system. The release contains all of the geometry nodes, the physics engine, collision detection code, quad tree etc. The source code release comes in a complete Visual Studio 2008 projects.

I can't think of any more major C++ coding to be done for the racing game, although may still change. We also need an AI system. Coming to think of it, depending on what we allow for in the racing game, there may also be some defensive systems that have to decide who and what to target.

Another area for a programmer is the GLSL shaders. Geist3D already has a large library of shaders which are all developed using the editor. I can think of a number of additional ones that would be nice to have, mainly screen space effects, such as volumetric fog, rain, depth of field etc. I think the best way to start is to familiarize yourself with the editor.

If you like 3D modeling or texturing, then there is lots of work there as well. Maybe you want to make your own spaceship, or come up with textures packs for planets.

Cheers
J

Greetings Shakti, and welcome to the city of Geist3D!

You finally found the hidden city, I was wondering when you'd come! You see, you're the piece I was expecting (actually you're more than I needed). I was waiting for an eastern artist from to show up in order to enrich the models I'm about to do. It's fate that brought you here, since you even know an almost extinct Indian art (I'm getting excited now...). Later on, if Jochen agree, we'll be creating various ruling governments, and we'll have various representatives of the main geopositioned human groups : Americas, Africa, Europe, middle East, Asia, Southern east and Australia. but this is a story for later, for now, we'll need those styles for the racer's speeders!
Well, I'm sorry I'm babbling too much on my first touch with you, sometimes I get ahead of myself. I should have limit myself to:  Welcome and it's a pleasure to have you!

Well,
I will try to upload the art work that I started recently. Its I guess 40-50% complete. Depending on how much time I can devote to it and where I wann to stop. The only problem is I am not a 3D Graphics artist. Apart from using blender basic things I cannot create a model. May be you can complement that by creating models. Then may be we can build a mythical hidden city. Wink. Well I am good at coding, so for writing scripts/shader and all I can always do it. Right now I am trying to build it. I built it but, while executing it I am getting some error. I have posted the error in the source section.

Hi Jochen,
I have a good deal of interest in 3D modeling or texturing, but I am still new to it. But I will try what I can do. Well in terms of AI I can help though. The thing I am planning is implementing some mischievous/dumb creatures for each world. These creatures will work on their primary needs and hunt you down.

If J allows, we'll open a Tutorials area, where we can teach what we know on terms of 3D and 2D graphics.
