The land is were everything happens, it's good to look at from far, and near by!
To obtain better results on 'our' beloved engine, Master Jochen decided to rework in the near future it's very essence!
So I took the freedom to post a few suggestions that are probably already on the backburner!
The feature I would like to see on the new terrain:

1. Main elevation/color map: A texture one imports to define the main displacement map and probably, color! This way we can add near real life planets in the games!
2. Procedural materials: Infinitely detailed procedural textures created by a complex combination/masking and operations between various and custom noise textures. The results can be very good and can make the terrain quite unique and detailed. Genetica is an example of such.
Here's a shot of Genetica viewer and the noise interaction!
3. Finally the somewhat  problematic horizontal displacement map. Infinity TQFE uses it why couldn't we?

Plan B in case materials are still to come, will might need to bake new textures for terrain painting!
For now I don't have much to add, since I just have a slight idea of what Jochen is aiming at now!
